How to insert the current date or time with a hotkey

When I take notes or fill in a journal, I keep typing today’s date by hand. Can I insert the current date or time with a single hotkey?

Yes — Comfort Keys Pro can insert any of the system clock values into the active application.

  1. Open the Keyboard Shortcuts Settings window.
  2. Click in the Key combination field and press the combination you want, for example Ctrl+; for the date.
  3. In Action type, choose Paste text.
  4. In the Text field type a placeholder: <DATE>, <TIME>, <DATETIME> or a custom format such as <DATE yyyy-MM-dd>.
  5. Save the settings.

You can create several hotkeys with different formats: ISO date for spreadsheets, long date for letters, time only for shift logs. The same placeholders also work in text templates, so a signature template can include the timestamp of the moment it was inserted.
